How to grow as a creator in Instagram
Instagram is the fastest growing platform in the world of internet. How awesome it would be if you crack its algorithm and grow with it! This post will be helpful to you if you are a creator(artist, musician, dancer, singer,...).
Instagram is just like any other online platform which is based on algorithms and codes which are made by humans and as said by Instagram itself that it constantly improves its algorithms by Artificial Intelligence, so here ill put up some points by which you can gain hell lot of exposure in this platform.
01) SWITCH TO BUSINESS ACCOUNT
Switching your profile to a business account is the first thing you should do as a creator.
You ask what are its benefits?
Well you'll be provided with an "Insights" section where you can keep track of your audience and which post is trending the most, sounds cool right? Another important thing is that Instagram gives you an extra push at a beginner level and silently promotes your posts like featuring them in the explore tab.
02) Write a neat bio with only important links
Have you ever seen a cringe tiktoker's Instagram bio? They are pretty similar, right? Don't do the mistakes that they do, write a clean bio with only important stuff like your location, your niche, and of course your name.
An unwanted mention of "official" and multiple text designs must be omitted to look more genuine.
Remember, a clean bio gives a classy look.
I have focused on "important links" too as most Instagram creators make a mistake of giving unimportant links. It's better not to put a link rather than showing off your stats.
03) Use your Instagram feed as a portfolio
Instagram allows you to post and gives you a grid of your uploads. What you can benefit from that as a creator is, you can set up your portfolio in Instagram's grid by posting your creations.
Remember, if you want to make a portfolio out of your grid then make sure you do not upload your images which you would have been uploading as a private account.
Imagine you want to hire an artist and see his portfolio and within that, you get to see his group photos with his friends, chilling around in a bar and hanging out with a girl who was your one night stand the previous day. That would not fit correctly, right?
So, it's important to put up only your creative posts in your feed. You can definitely make a separate private account to keep track of your friends.
04) Use captions and hashtags
Putting up a caption defines your posts and gives a storyline to your followers. Believe me when I say "it gives a storyline", I've seen more people engaging with my content if I put a storyline, behind the scene or back end production of the art I put up.
Moving on to hashtags, they are like winds and your art like pollen grains. Hashtag gives you the power to spread your posts for free! And guess what, you can use 30 of them in each post!
Having a business account also gives you insights about your hashtag reach, which means you can keep track of how many people saw your post from hashtags.
05) Utilize Instagram's stories
Instagram stories play a major role in engaging your audience with you. In the story you can put up your work schedule, back end processing of making of your art, sharing your daily moments, etc.
This one is Important- Instagram stories play a major role and you can benefit from it. When you put out a post you should put up a story and tell your followers that you just uploaded some stuff.
You might be thinking what's the need for doing that, my followers will see my posts eventually.
Lemme tell you how Instagram's algorithm work, for an instance if you follow 600 people and everyone is posting almost daily. Do you see every 600 posts on your feed? Nope.
Instagram knows you'll be frustrated with seeing such a huge number of posts so its algorithm shows you the posts of people with whom you engage with daily.
Same happens when you post an image, it only shows up to people who interact with you.
That's the reason why your personal account with 300 followers gets almost 250 likes and your creative account with 5k followers gets 200 likes.
06) Upload Videos too
Since 2017 I've been posting only photo posts and recently started posting video content too. The massive change I've seen in my insights is that while uploading a video post, the follower count rises up like the hairline of a teenage guy.
Try uploading video posts and your video might show up in the explore page, you never know.
07) Post Regularly
I find myself as a perfect example of this. At the beginning of my growth, I used to post daily. Yes fu*kin daily! I was the most joyous person who was getting 50-100 followers per day until I stopped posting as I felt pretty much lazy all day, I rarely posted after that like 1 post every 2 months. And this ruined my engagement!
Instagram wants to please its people, not the creators. Instagram knows that the creator wants to benefit from them but normal people can increase their revenue by seeing ads. That's the reason why Instagram promotes the creators who can put out content regularly to get people interested in Instagram.
It's no need for you to post daily but you can put up content 2-3 times a week for better growth.
